Reaching out to others...in our parish and local community.
MISSION STATEMENT:
The Outreach Commission’s mission is to recognize the
presence of the Lord in each individual and respond in service to one
another. We demonstrate our commitment to the call of the Gospel by
assisting the poor, being present to the sick and sorrowing, serving
those in need, reaching out to those who hunger for the Word of God and
standing firmly against social injustice.
COMMISSION MEMBERS:
Dana Gregg, Judy Castillo, Mary Doherty, Lynn Harris, Roy Jackson, Denise Johnson, Alan & Donna Novak, and Pat Pawlik.
Upcoming Activities
A Mass of Anointing is scheduled for Saturday, September 27 at
10:00 AM. Twice each year we celebrate the Sacrament of the Sick within a
Eucharistic celebration. The Sacrament of the Sick will be administered to all
who are suffering from an ailment or undergoing medical treatments, as well as
the frail elderly. At this Mass we make every effort to reach out to the
shut-ins in our community who are ambulatory and transport them to this special
service. Anyone in need of transportation to the Mass should call the Parish
Office at 447-2354.
Following the Mass
a light lunch will be offered to the participants. We need many volunteers to
make this happen. Signups will be taken after all Masses September 13/14. Help is
needed in the following areas: set-up, clean-up, escort/greeters, and drivers.
Please bring family members and friends to celebrate this liturgy. Those
involved in providing health care are also invited for this special morning.
OUTREACH MINISTRIES AND PROGRAMS:
Communion to Sick-Homebound
Communion is currently taken from the 8:30 a.m. and 10:00
a.m. Masses each Sunday by a rotating group of Eucharistic Ministers who
represent the St. Joseph
community to homebound parish members. This ministry strives to create a
connection to the parish for those who cannot attend Mass because of
illness/infirmity. Any parishioner who is ill or recovering from surgery may
contact the Parish Office to request Communion. Time commitment is approximately 1 1/2 hours once a month. To volunteer to become a Homebound
Eucharistic Minister to the sick, please call the Parish Office.
Legion of Mary
This group serves with special devotion to our Blessed
Mother, Mary, under the direction of the Pastor. Their primary ministry is
evangelization. They assist with Masses and Communion services at local senior
centers and the hospital as well as other ministries. Time Commitment:
approximately two hours weekly.
Martha’s Ministry
Members coordinate funeral luncheons for grieving families,
including food donations, set up/clean up and assist with luncheons for Mass of
Anointing. Rotating list of volunteers means time commitment can vary from one
hour of food prep to three hours serving at a funeral luncheon approximately
once a month. Martha’s Ministry
Coordinators are currently in need of volunteers to help serve at funeral
luncheons.
Prayer Line
Daily prayer by volunteers for intentions called into Church office by members of St. Joseph community. Membership involves
daily prayer for the intentions called in and passing along those intentions by
phone to two other Prayer Line members. Time Commitment is individual, but can
be less than one hour daily.
Women’s Social and Service Group
This group meets on the second Thursday of the month in the
Parish meeting room at 9:30 a.m. The group assists the Office with mailings,
Children’s Retreat Packets and collecting and packaging toiletry items for
SafeQuest Women’s Shelter. This group also assists and supports Outreach Advent
Projects.
